He is an uber talented Belfast based drum 'n' bass producer. According to legend was discovered by the godfather of liquid funk Fabio around the turn of the millennium, and subsequently went on to lay the blueprint for the nascent genre with his 2001 album Musique Concrete. Fans describe him as the best producer in his genre. Period! (Cue the debate).

His music is…musical, warm, melodic, dance floor friendly, immaculately produced and delves below the surface of, what can be at times, a pretty one dimensional sound.

We recommend marking this guy on your dance card; you won’t be disappointed. Ask Genie!

In his own words..

What’s been going on for Calibre this year?

Hello there! Well I’ve just put out my third album entitled Overflow on Signature Records, which I’ve been running now for nearly 6 years. I’ve also been taking more time off being on the road to concentrate on other things musical.

If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?

Oh I dunno, maybe prolific and under-promoted, both out of choice.

Tell us a bit about your best gig to date and why was it the best?

I think I’ve had many, but there are stand out moments for different reasons. Cologne this year was very very good, but I do draw from more recent experiences when I think of this.

What piece of new fangled technology has really made a difference to your job in the last few years?

I suppose that would have to be logic the studio software program, and the main reason is that it speeds up certain elements of the creative process, which for me is excellent as I regard this form of creativity to be more suited to this.

If you could get any three producers/musicians in the studio with you, who would they be and why?

King Tubby and Charles Stepney could fight over production, Tubby had a super soft touch, and Stepney had that far away big sound, and then I’d have to have a voice with soul and I’d go for Richie Havens. He’s a very nice guy so I’m told...would be a weird folkdubsymphony!

What can we look forward to from Calibre at the Electric Picnic?!

My sets are made up 90% of my own music so it’s mostly a mixture of old and very new. It’s very nerve racking for me and I don’t think people understand that I’ve usually written half the set 3 weeks prior!

What are you looking forward to most about the picnic?!

I did another outdoor gathering this year in Ireland and it was practically rained out, so no rain and I’ll be happy.

Not many people know that I…am very interested in arachnids

Calibre’s thought for the day is…wake up later

Calibre’s word of the day is…hhhmm

Calibre’s idea of a good night out is…bike ride at sundown
