Rumors of an MGMT / Chemical Brothers collaboration have been reported this week on a host of blogs, forums and even this very website.
It appears however that it's all mere speculation as the Brooklyn based MGMT boys put the brakes on any gossip that may have arisen from a recent interview with the band's frontman Andrew VanWyngarden.
Recounting an email conversation between the two bands, VanWyngarden said that both camps had bonded following a complimentary email from the Chemicals. He went on to say "We'll experiment with them to create a different sound".
It was these words that sparked a frenzy among music journalists and bloggers alike earlier this week and has forced the band to post the following on their Myspace site; "Contrary to another internet rumor, though they be rad dudes, the Chemical Brothers will not be producing MGMT's next album,"
This was part of a larger post that goes on to talk about the matter of their drummer Will's recently acquired ankle injury and the possible effect it could have on the band. "Pray for Will's health and that the X-rays don't show any fractures, otherwise it's goodbye MGMT forever" they say. Sounds to me like they're trying to start a few rumors of their own.
