Nick Höppner (MyMy)

Nick Höppner has been DJing since 1997. Initially, he played lots of Hamburg based clubs and bars, then moved to Berlin in 2001 and quickly became a resident at Berlin's seminal Panorama Bar/Berghain Club. In 1999 he started a day job as one of Groove Magazine's editors. At the start of 2005, he decided to become a fulltime DJ and producer.

Now as part MyMy, Nick works on the creative side of things with Lee Jones but by night has held court at Panorama Bar successfully for the last few years, in what has become the epicentre of all things musically cool. We caught up with him for some questions and a great new podcast mix.

  1. The biggest Influence in my Life .....

Boring, but true: My dad! The older I get, the more I become like him, although I didn't live with him for too long. Both in a negative and positive way. also: My girlfriend!

  1. The internet.....

I hatelove it. It makes things a lot easier, that's a good thing. But I hate it for all the hating trolls on forums and message boards. When it comes to blogs and webzines on electronic music, I'm a bit ambivalent, too. On the one hand, it's very nice to see it all covered. On the other, a lot of people seem to take it a bit too seriously there. It seems as if a lot of people only discuss and write about it, without actually experiencing it in a club and thus blowing it out of proportion.

  1. If I could turn back time.....

I'd become a DJ and a dad earlier (still not a dad).

  1. My first gig....

wasn't really a gig. I played in a bar in Hamburg with two friends. They had a calendar behind the bar where you could sign yourself up as a DJ. very democratic. And you could play whatever you wanted. The fee was free alcohol and we all got hideously drunk. The place was called Egal Bar, meaning Whatever Bar.

  1. The funniest thing I ever heard ....

Play something to dance to!

  1. Food and music .....

Love it both.

  1. The happiest moment....

As a DJ: A crowd in front of you with no feet on the ground.

  1. One place you should definitely visit....

The one you have never been before.

  1. The best food in the world....

Sushi in Sao Paolo, Il Focolare in Rome

  1. The best advice I ever got .....

Shut up and dance!
