DJ Sneak - Acid Digestion [Ovum]

Sneak's recent resurrection has been faintly heartwarming - well, for anyone who has a soft-spot for the mid- to late-90s house at least. This Ovum release references an earlier period - two-third of this acid-flecked EP are definitely more Djax Up Beats than Henry Street. 'Acid Digestion' is surprisingly heavy for a Sneak cut, sounding more like DJ Skull or a less lo-fi Steve Poindexter: jagged drums, an ear-splitting one-note 303 stab and little else. 'Acido' is similarly raw but more restrained, more fluid. Both are efforts from Sneak's vaults and both have been given an update by label boss Wink - but whatever polish has been applied (the occasional sweep?), they still bang the box. The effective 'Artisticus' returns to his favoured cut-and-paste/looped sample style - is that Ian Dury floating about? - for anyone feeling a bit left out.
