The last 12 months have seen many different ways of releasing a new album. From Prince giving away his album with a Sunday newspaper to Radiohead letting their online fans decide on their own price (or indeed, get it for free), the days of going your local musicstore and paying €15 for a CD seem to be on the way out.

From Prince giving away his album with a Sunday newspaper to Radiohead letting their online fans decide on their own price (or indeed, get it for free), the days of going your local musicstore and paying €15 for a CD seem to be on the way out.

And so its the turn of Belgian duo The Glimmers to come up with a new way to release and distribute their debut album - give it away for free at their DJ gigs. The way it works is that the promoter pays towards the cost of the album and every punter who goes to their gig gets a free CD. The promoter has a gimmick for his gig, the artist gets a set amount per CD and bypasses piracy and you, the good aul punter, gets a free album. Everyone's a winner....
