Who says vinyl is dead? Amazon.com has announced that it has launched a new vinyl section with over 250,000 titles. It seems its not only Djs and audio nerds who are clinging onto the wax, as vinyl sales have increased more that 80% in the last two years.
Some mainstream acts are also jumping back on the L.P bandwagon and releasing their album in vinyl format. U2, Coldplay and Kings of Leon have all released vinyl additions of their recent albums and heavy metal titans Metallica saw their “Death Magnetic” album sell so quickly from Amazon that there is now a hefty waiting list for it.
Mike Allen, who is a former vice president of EMI says, "There's a reaction against the commoditization of music that downloading represents- With vinyl there's something that has innate value -- a physical object.”
With songs disappearing as quickly as they appear online it seems the idea of being able to sit down, physically touch the music, look at the artwork and store an album is a tradition that still hasn’t died just yet.
