Leah Tinari in her own words: “I am a painter. I live and work in the East Village of New York City. I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1998, where I studied painting. I am represented by Mixed Greens Gallery in NYC. I am looking forward to solo shows in 2009 in NYC, Washington D.C., and Boston, and Barcelona and Milano in 2010.”

Has your job ever got you laid, free drink, arrested?

Well, probably yes to the first part, because I think being an artist makes one seem cool and interesting and makes others want to sleep with you more. Ha ha! I don't know that for sure, but I think so! Definitely got free drinks, one time in particular I was asked to do a ‘live’ painting performance (make a painting on a stage at this nightclub in NYC) . Well, the ‘live’ painting bit was a total disaster, but I got trashed for free along with my friends. Arrested: no, not yet.

What did you want to be as a kid?

An artist, always. For as long as I can remember.

What's the best tool of your trade?

My inspirations.

Why did you choose these images?

I chose these images because they are part of a new body of work called ‘Sneak a Peek’ that were exhibited at Mixed Greens Gallery in NYC, February thru March.

How would you describe them to a blind person?

Not the way George Bush said hello to Stevie Wonder, by waving at him (that is not a joke that - totally happened). I would say to imagine yourself in a room with people you love being around (the room is small so everyone is pretty close), doing something you really enjoy, add a few drinks to the mix, and your favourite scent and there you go... a Tinari Painting!

If your art was music what would it sound like?

I hope a cross between MIA and Gwen Stefani .

Big up yourself.

I just had a baby a month ago and I am already back to being skinny except now I have great boobs! Who doesn't love that!

How far have you gone for your art?

Dedicating my life to it so far.
