Straight to the Point: Slowburn
Phil & Dave from Slowburn get Straight to the Point with Bodytonicmusic.com...
Whether it's in the recording studio or out on the bitterly cold 5-a-side football pitch of a Wednesday evening, Slowburn (Phil Long & Dave Hargadon) work intricate patterns with a clear eyes on the prize approach to success. Killer releases on Uzuri & Elektrosouls in 2011 have set the scene and with the lads building solidly from the back, 2012 will see their creative midfielder instincts shine through with some neat one-twos all the to the gollaaazzzzoooooooooo ! Already planned for next year is the 'Hustle E.P' on Austure records, a remix for Rawtro (Graham Bray) on Feel Harmonic along with some offside releases - keep your ears peeled.
We sat down over an open Xmas fire and got ..Straight to the Point...
First record bought...
Dave: After a few years of pissing my older brother off by wearing down all his records, I decided it was time to start my own collection and the first one I bought was Slam's album Alien Radio on Soma.
Philip: Hmmm, think it may have been the Blue's Brother's soundtrack, I use to love that film when I was a kid growing up. I'd watch it nearly every day with my sister and my mam, God rest her.
Last record I listened to was ...
Dave: Malvoeaux - Target EP on L.I.E.S
Philip: Patrice Rushen - Haven't you Heard, while I cleaned up my messy room last night. The vocals are so smooth and it's got a great lift towards the back end of the track
The record I pretend I don't love is ...
Dave: I cant think of any, I dont usually having a problem saying I like something that others think is shite.
Philip: Dont know, you will have to leave that one with me. lol (we're still waiting here at BT HQ, btw)
The record I always go back to…
Dave: Malik Pittmann remix of Loose Piano by Darren Abrams.
Philip: Ricardo Miranda- Urbanism
My biggest musical inspiration is...
Dave: All the different parties I've been to at home and abroad over the last ten years.
Philip: My dad my a big Beatles head so I would probably say them, there were playing out pretty much 24/7 in the house.
My first gigging experience was…
Dave: In the local pub in my hometown of Easkey, playing house with my brother and some friends.
Philip: First one was upstairs in a bar called Viva, it's the south william now
My worst gigging experience was…
Dave: Shortly after I moved to Dublin in 2004 a friend of a friend asked me if I wanted to warm up for him in some club in Ranelgh. I presumed he knew that I only played deep house and so I brought along a full bag of that to play before him. The place turned out to be a cheese club with a not-so-friendly clientele who were less than impressed with my taste in music judging by their verbal abuse!
Philip: Had plenty of bad ones, not really to sure what was the worst one though. Usually a combination of bad equiptment and some fool banging off the deck or try to put his hand over on to a record.
My best gigging experience was…
Dave: The most memorable ones have been at afterparties playing back to back with friends playing all of our favourite records.
Philip: Hmm It might actually be in the small bar up in Mc Gruders maybe 4 years ago, the needle was jumping a little from the floor as there were about 70 wedged into this side bar jumping all over the place but it was really fun so it didn't bother me to much when it lifted.
The person I would least like to share a stage with would be…
Dave: David Guetta, I'd like to think i'd give up before things got that bad.
Philip: Any fools who play poor records and throw shapes while there playing
If I wasn’t a musician I would be a…
Dave: man with more money but less friends.
Philip: A gardner or a post man I think, the simple life with the plan is quite appealing to me; )
Your favourite Youtube…?
Dave:
Philip: A recent one that I forgot about, it's actually a clip of Family Guy where Peter does the 'haven't you heard about the Bird' ma ma ma ow mow mow... it's splits my side ever time I watch it.
I also like the bbc weather man clip where he give the finger when the camera is on him, so funny
