Ask The Boss: Dixon (Innervisions)
Innervisions label boss, Dixon sat down to give us some behind the scenes info on the life of running a label in 2012...
Your Name
Dixon.
What do you do?
Traveling Entertainer. Vice President of FC Magnet Mitte. And there is this thing called Innervisions.
Whats a typical day like?
There is no typical day. The only thing that is typical is that i have a 7 days a week job. There is no "Sunday" for me to relax like it is for other people. It is full on. But I do not complain - I can make more holidays than other people.
Worst part of being the boss?
Realizing that it is your fault.
The best?
I am the boss.
How many people do you manage?
2 at Innervisions. 10 on the field.
How do you see your industry changing in the next five years?
Less vinyl labels. Less distributors. But at the same time more music is gonna be released. More labels that have some kind of a membership system for their fans. Every important label that exists is connected to something (a club, an exclusive artist, a magazine, a fashion brand...). Everyone sells/sends/streams music directly to fans. Some (successful) artists will not sell music anymore but keep it exclusive for their gigs. That is what springs into my mind immediately but there is more things changing of course.
How do you unwind?
Most of the time with my son and my wife. But if they are not around then play golf or chess.
What type of boss would you say you are?
Please ask someone else this!
Where do you go from here?
Home.
Dixon plays the Twisted Pepper August 18th - tickets available now from here
