Straight to the point with american chick Kate Simko . . .

Getting her start stateside alongside Matthew Dear, Ryan Elliott, and the Spectral Sound crew, Kate Simko has quietly, yet consistently, established herself as one of dance music’s rising stars. A diverse musician, Kate's projects range from remixing Philip Glass, to composing film scores, to rocking jackin’ DJ sets, and producing her melodic, Chicago-flavoured take on house and techno.

Your Name

Kate Simko

First record bought...

Something off Chain Reaction, Peace Frog, or Perlon .. in the fall of '98 ..

Last record I listened to was ...

John Talabot's new album on Permanent Vacation

The record I pretend I don't love is ...

Phil Collins "Another Day in Paradise"

The record I always go back to…

Chiapet "Westworld" off Yoshitoshi ... so timeless fits into almost any DJ set

My biggest musical inspiration is...

Classical piano, 1960's jazz, Chicago, New York, and Detroit house, Detroit techno, early German minimal, Italy disco, French house.

My first gigging experience was…

Playing live with Andres Bucci in Chile in 2002. It was a small venue in Santiago. It was a cool place to get started, as Santiago had a really DIY mentality at the time. Vinyl distribution was very limited down there, and the internet was super slow. Pirate music sites didn't really exist yet, so people were really eager to hear new music live.

My worst gigging experience was…

Getting my entire DJ bag stolen in Tampa, Florida a couple years ago.

My best gigging experience was…

Tough one... probably playing live in Room 1 at Fabric. I've been blessed to do that 2 times now. Amazing experience both times!

The person I would least like to share a stage with would be…

Prince

If I wasn’t a musician I would be a…

Wannabe ballerina

Favorite YouTube video...

Fave of the week is Grimes' video for Oblivion. Super creative but not overproduced - love it!
